What belongs in a call log

A call log earns its keep when anyone reading it can act without asking questions. These columns cover that:

  • Date and time: when did the call happen?
  • Contact, company, phone: who was on the line, and how do you reach them again?
  • Direction: incoming, outgoing, or missed. Missed calls are where follow-ups die.
  • Duration: useful for billing and for spotting time sinks.
  • Topic and notes: one or two lines beat a transcript.
  • Follow-up and done: the two columns that turn a list into a to-do system.

Taking messages for someone else? The classic message pad works better than a log sheet: grab the free phone message template (the "While You Were Out" form) as PDF and Word.

Where a spreadsheet stops working

A sheet at the reception desk or a spreadsheet for occasional client calls is hard to beat. At five, ten, or twenty calls a day the math flips: the sheet lives on one desk, the spreadsheet lives on one computer, and calls taken on the road never make it in. The calls that carry revenue are the first ones to slip through.

Or: one tap after you hang up

Callvent keeps the call log on your phone: after you hang up, one tap turns the call into a calendar event, with contact, time, notes, tags, and a callback reminder. No cloud, no account, 7-day free trial.

Frequently asked questions

What should a call log include? +

Date and time, contact name, company, phone number, call direction (incoming, outgoing, missed), duration, a one-line summary of the topic, and the agreed follow-up with a due date. A done column keeps the list actionable.

Is the template really free? +

Yes. Both the printable PDF and the CSV are free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Use them at work and share them with your team.

Should I use the PDF or the CSV version? +

The PDF is a printable A4 log sheet for a desk or reception counter. The CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers and works as a running, searchable call log on your computer.

Is there a faster alternative to a spreadsheet? +

Yes: an app that logs calls right on your phone. Callvent turns a finished call into a calendar event with one tap: contact, time, notes, tags, and a callback reminder. Everything stays on your device.

How do I get support? +

Email info@callvent.app. Questions about the template, the app, or a purchase are answered there directly; all contact options are also listed on the support page.
